Austin nonprofit partners with local shelter to host donation drive for the homeless

A non-profit will be collecting nonperishable items for Austin’s homeless men and women.
AUSTIN, Texas (May. 27, 2019) –– A Helping Hand, a non-profit organization, will be hosting a donation drive throughout the month of June in partnership with Front Steps shelter. The campaign will target individuals in the Austin community in an effort to raise awareness about the growing homeless population.
According to Austin Street Humans, a 2018 count documented a five percent increase in people experiencing homelessness in Austin. Around 70% of all the homeless population are unsheltered living in poor conditions with a lack of supplies. The drive will serve towards providing homeless men and women with a variety of items from canned goods, hygiene products and nonperishable items.
Faith Ombati, founder and CEO of A Helping Hand, is thrilled about the campaign. “The donation drive will provide individuals with the opportunity to step forward and make a difference in their own community,” said Ombati. “ No amount of supplies donated is too big or small we appreciate all the effort.”
