Austin nonprofit launches employment programs for the homeless

A non-profit based in Austin launches customized professional development workshops to help homeless men and women with employment opportunities.

AUSTIN, Texas (March. 6, 201­9)  ––  A Helping Hand, a non-profit organization launched in Austin is committed to improving the lives of many homeless women and men.  In collaboration with shelters, local businesses and companies, the organization is paving a way for individuals to transition out of homelessness.

In Austin, 2,147 individuals are currently experiencing homelessness whether that’s living on the streets or in shelters. A Helping Hand has stepped forward to help those in the midst of difficult times. The organization strives to guide, mentor and support individuals with services that will provide the opportunity for professional growth.

Faith Ombati, founder and CEO of A Helping Hand, is excited about the launch. “We are thrilled to announce the debut our nonprofit organization to the Austin community,” said Ombati. “I wanted to create a supportive environment that brings attention to the hardships homeless men and women go through during their job search.”    

A Helping Hand has partnered up with Front Steps, Salvation Army Center and Green Doors homeless shelters to set up professional development workshops on resume building, interview etiquette and appropriate attire.  In addition, the organization plans on holding career fairs that will provide networking opportunities. The organization has also collaborated with local businesses and companies that will connect homeless women and men to different resources in the community. The organization is dedicated to creating an environment that allows everyone to have an equal opportunity to learn skills that will help them feel prepared for a professional career.

“Here at A Helping Hand our vision is to be a voice and raise awareness for homeless men and women to have an equal opportunity for employment despite their current situation,” said Ombati.
